Chandigarh 09th April:-NSS unit of National institute of Nursing Education PGI, Chandigarh celebrated World Health Day with theme: Beat diabetes scale up prevention, strengthen care and enhance surveillance on 7th and 8th April 2016 under supervision of program officers Meenakshi Agnihotri and Sukhjit Kaur. NSS volunteers organized a candle March at sector 17, plaza Chandigarh on 7th April 2016 in collaboration with IPHA, Local Branch, PGI. Volunteers conducted health checkup (BP monitoring and Blood glucose monitoring) of the public. They participated in flash workout session and candle light March which was flagged off by Prof Rajesh Kumar, HOD School of Public Health PGI and Dr Sandhya Ghai, Principal, NINE, PGI, President, IPHA along with other faculty members of college. Volunteers delivered health talk to the general public to make them aware of prevention and control of diabetes.
On 8th April NSS volunteers organised a health mela on WHO theme to prevent and control diabetes at village Sarangpur (UT).Volunteers conducted health checkup (BP monitoring and Blood glucose monitoring)of villagers and delivered them health talk through posters and demonstrations. Volunteers discussed with villagers, who were already diagnosed diabetics, about menu planning and how they can prevent complications of this disease. Dr Sandhya Ghai inaugurated this one day camp and appreciated volunteers for their active participation.
