Chandigarh 08th March:- CII Ludhiana Zonal Office organised an interactive session with K D Chaudhri, Chairman & Managing Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, at Circuit House, Ludhiana.
Neeraj Satija, CII Ludhiana Zonal Chairman, while addressing, mentioned that there are several issues related to power sector in Punjab. Today the Industry works with fully automated machines & equipment which are quite expensive & sensitive to Power fluctuations & outages. He added that as the power being supplied in Punjab is erratic at times, the industry is forced to install either backup systems or other expensive safeguards for its machines which further adds to the costs and making the produce more uncompetitive. CII is working closely with the Government by giving recommendations to PSPCL.
K D Chaudhri shared that online payment system is already working benefitting both the consumers as well as the industrial sector serving 83 lakh consumers. Government is investing heavily on New Transmissions; for Peak demand i.e. 10800 MW. We already have capacity to demand for 11000 MW for next 4 months.
S S Bhogal, Immediate Past Chairman CII Punjab State Council & Managing Director Bhogal Sales Corporation welcomed the participants and mentioned that in the past 4 years Government has become proactive and this is the first time such an interaction is being conducted on demand of the industry friends.
During the interaction a number of suggestions have been forwarded such as allowing of subletting power meter to the industry. Industry members also demanded 10% power increase as industries natural growth of every year. A policy may be made which has a mechanism wherein some percentage (like 10%) of enhancements over existing load of an industrial user could be permitted annually without formalities so that his routine expansion needs are automatically covered.
