Chandigarh 19th January:-Punjab Industry and Commerce Minister, Madan Mohan Mittal, along with Sukhchain Singh Gill, SSP Chandigarh together launched the TAC-CERT, Cyber Emergency Response Team, here today.
Trishneet Arora, world renowned ethical hacker and CEO and founder, TAC Security Solutions said that while the country has made enormous progress in sectors such as information technology and e-commerce, the cyber-security in India is at a nascent stage. The concept of engaging services of professional hackers to track, identify and plug security loopholes in the organization̢۪s information systems is catching up.
Sharing that as per reports, the damage that cyber-crimes inflicted on the global economy amounted to $ 445 billion. As per reports, The average number of information security incidents detected by respondents increased by 117 per cent over the previous year. Meanwhile, the increase in incidents of cyber-security breach globally stood at just 39 per cent during the period under consideration (July 2014-June 2015).
Losses as a result of incidents of cyber-security also surged by 135 per cent over the previous year, and the average cost per incident increased by close to 8 per cent, as per the report. As per reports, he says, 843 government websites have been hacked since 2012.
Sharing that the victims have little idea what to do once they have been attacked, Trishneet said that TAC- CERT is being established to mitigate the potential threats to the affected by providing immediate response. With Immediate Incident Response on mind, TAC Security Solutions set up the TAC CERT division. Explaining that TAC- CERT is an-all comprehensive antidote against cyber-security attacks and deals with computer related and internet related security incidents, Trishneet said that if you are already breached, report to us and let TAC-CERT to take over. Trishneet further explained that once a cyber-attack is referred to TAC- CERT, the TAC team helps in ascertaining the cyber-attack. Once ascertained, TAC-CERT team takes over and gets into action to identify the source of attacks, whether internal or external. TAC- CERT shall help in identifying such attacks and thwart them in time besides collating evidences for use in litigation, if any. TAC- CERT, besides limiting the damage would help in deflecting any such future attacks.
On launching the TAC-CERT, Madan Mohan Mittal said that the industry should take advantage of this service and save itself from any damages thereof. The crisis of cyber security looms large on start-ups, SMEs, corporates and MNCs alike. While Industries, he stressed, deploy dedicated risk management plans against fire, accidents, natural disasters, financial risks et al, they have completely failed to take care of the risk arising out of the dependence on information technology infrastructure.
Sukhchain Gill said that the service shall be useful in stalling any further damage once reported. The cyber- crime cell shall do its investigation while CERT shall help plug in all the loopholes as soon as the incident is reported. He further said that the role of Police and CERT is complimentary to each other. Information is our critical infrastructure. It is high time we take enough measures to guard this infrastructure against any mishappenings like we guard all other infrastructures
