Chandigarh 16th January:- Pracheen Kala Kendra organized its 218th Monthly Baithak Programme here today at its Bhaskar Rao Indoor Auditorium, Sector 35-B, Chandigarh when Toranto based renowned Vocalist Gauri Guha enthralled the city audience with her melodious Vocal recital.
Gauri Guha is an established and highly acclaimed professional North Indian classical vocalist and recipient of many grants from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council. After initial training, Gauri was later groomed by Late Pandit A. Kanan, the senior most Gurus of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata. She got added exposure under Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. With her dedication to music and quality performance, she has won the hearts of music listeners all over India.
Endowed with a resonating and soulful voice, Gauri began her recital with Raga Abhogi. The opening Bada khayal composition "Kaise Kahun dukhwa main kase kahun." set to a vilambit ek taal was developed with soothingly inserted alap badhat besides scores of well knit sargams and boldly executed taan flourishes. It was followed by a chhota Khayal drut teen taal bandish "Lagan mori lagi sham badan so..…" and a bhajan in Marathi with bols "Siddha Bhajo". She chose Raag Jhinjhoti "Mera man har lina sawariya re" and as her next rendering and doled out one more Rajasthai Meera Bhajan "Mere Ghar aayo re pritam pyara", which was laced with liltingly deployed variations.
Gauri Guha provided a befitting finale to her recital with a Brahmanand's composition in Rag Jonpuri with bols "Shri Ram Kahe samjhai, suno lachman pyare bhai"amid thunderous applause displaying her musical capabilities in a highly impressive manner. Her khayal gayaki revealed her artistic insight and scholarly understanding of the Hindustani idiom.
The excellent accompaniment on Tabla by city based percussionist Mehmood Khan added to the success of the concert. Rakesh Kumar provided support on Harmonium. Kendra Registrar Smt. Shobha Koser honoured the artists.
