Chandigarh 14th December:- As Chennai & other parts of Tamil Nadu continue to struggle with unprecedented devastation caused by heavy rainfall & floods, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are working to support relief and reconstruction efforts. The Walmart Foundation has committed INR One Crore to Charities Aid Foundation India (CAF India) for the provision of health and hygiene kits, food baskets, safe drinking water and tarpaulins. In addition, many Walmart India associates made immediate in-kind contribution (clothes and other urgent supplies) to the NGO, Goonj, in response to the crisis.
Ms. Meenakshi Batra, CEO, Charities Aid Foundation India (CAF India) said that the devastation is extensive. Even as relief camps and medical facilities are being set-up, we have much need for the community to come together and support those affected. Together with organizations like Walmart and the Walmart Foundation, we hope to bring immediate relief to the people and help rebuild Chennai and other affected part of Tamil Nadu.
Krish Iyer, President & CEO, Walmart India said that we stand by the people of Chennai and neighboring areas of Tamil Nadu who have been affected by the floods. In addition to the relief grant of INR One Crore by Walmart Foundation, we have pledged our support to the community through voluntary in-kind donations & volunteering activities.
