Chandigarh 08th October:- The Department of Botany, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized a DBT sponsored Cytology Workshop by Prof. S. Kapila, Department of Botany, P.U., Chandigarh. Prof Kapila educated the students about various topics such as Evolution of Chromosomes, m- chromosomes in bryophytes, Meiotic abnormalities, techniques of mitotic and meiotic studies in Liverworts and Mosses. The students also received hands-on training on detailed techniques by researchers accompanying Prof. Kapila.
In keeping with the endeavours of the Department to promote pragmatic learning, two field trips for more than 180 students were also organized on two separate days. The students visited the Botanical gardens of Punjab University Chandigarh to survey the flora. The contingent also visited the different labs of Botany Department at PU to get an overview of the infrastructure and equipments used for advanced studies in Botany.
Applauding the endeavour of the department to boost scientific knowledge among students, Principal of the college, Ms. Neena Dhawan said that such diligent platforms are imperative to holistic learning and foster the scientific aptitude of the students.
