AIHM Organizes Musical Event of Ustad Rehmat Khan Langa

Chandigarh 12th October:- Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition in collaboration with SPIC MACAY organized a musical event glorified by the performance of the well renowned folk artist Ustad Rehmat Khan Langa and Troupe. The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture.

Led by Ustad Rehmat Khan, recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in Secularism, performed widely both in India and in various other countries and presently teaches folk music at National Bal Bhawan, New Delhi along with his team from Baadner, Rajasthan consisting of vocalists Yar Mohammad and Anwar Khan, Habib Khan(Sarangi), Mohammad Rafi (Khartulla) and Iqbal Ali (Dholak) belted out popular vibrant folk songs of Rajasthan.

The air was charged and the atmosphere electric, as the auditorium reverberated with the cheering and clapping of excited students who had gathered to witness the much awaited musical show. The auditorium was jam-packed to its full capacity of around 300 spectators with many of them even standing to listen to the riveting symphony of the music. The participants presented a varied collection of Rajasthani folk music. The symphony of the performers enchanted the students, staff and the faculty.

Mrs. Bharti Tyagi, the Principal of the Institute quotes Music offers a wonderful connecting thread between visitor and host community. Such contact between people of different backgrounds is the very foundation for tolerance. In a world struggling for peaceful coexistence, music can build bridges and contribute to peace and harmony. She applauded the musicians who enlightened the audience with their performance portraying the rich Indian folk music.
