‘Akshay Urja Divas’:Conference on “Be a Proud Solar Power Producer” organizes

Chandigarh 20th August:- Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society organized a Conference on "Be a Proud Solar Power Producer"  on the occasion of 'Akshay Urja Divas'  at UT Guest House, Chandigarh, where representatives of FOSWAC and Resident Welfare Associations were invited to sensitize and explain about the installation of Rooftop Solar Power Plants in Chandigarh. The Conference was inaugurated by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh. It was also attended by Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary (Science & Tech.) Chandigarh, Santosh Kumar, Director(S&T) & CEO,CREST, M. P. Singh, S.E. (Electricity) and other Officers/ officials of Chandigarh Administration, Sh. Baljinder Singh Bittu, President, FOSWAC and representatives of Resident Welfare Associations. On this occasion, Adviser also flagged off a Rally of around 100 school students creating awareness about car pooling/ vehicle sharing and reduction of consumption of fossil fuel to save environment.   The rally was  organized in association with Environmental NGO – Yuvsatta.

Vijay Dev,Adviser to the Administrator, while giving his inaugural address informed that Chandigarh Administration is fully committed to develop Chandigarh as a Model Solar City. He emphasized that renewable energy is the need of the hour and it is high time that cities of India which are major source of electricity consumption start producing solar energy. Adviser exhorted the representatives of Resident Welfare Associations to take aggressive steps on installation of Solar Power Plants to propagate it among residents of Chandigarh. He also announced that on the 'Akshay Urja Divas' next year, the Resident Welfare Associations who will install maximum number of Solar Power Plants will get award of Rs.1.00 lakh from CREST, UT Chandigarh.

Besides this, the "State Action Plan on Climate Change for UT Chandigarh' was released by Vijay Dev.  This State Action Plan on Climate Change for UT Chandigarh shall address the main climatic issues of the city and the strategic mitigation plans to be taken by the Administration till 2050.

Santosh Kumar, IFS, Director (Science & Tech) & CEO (CREST) informed that the JERC for UT & Goa has notified the Solar Tariff and Net Metering Regulations recently. According to that any person can be Solar Power Producer. With this, consumer can generate Solar Power for self consumption and can feed excess power into the grid to be adjusted in future billing cycle till the end of settlement period ending on 30th Sept and 31st March on six monthly duration- called 'Net Metering Arrangement'. Any consumer can also opt for Gross metering under which he/she can produce Solar power & can directly sell it to Grid through DISCOM.  He further informed that we have tried to provide one stop solution where bankers as well as local power developer were present here to interact with interested residents. Santosh Kumar, IFS further said that the  State Action Plan on Climate Change is combined Action Plan for next 35 years i.e. upto 2050 wherein all different stakeholders like Forest department, Environment deptt, Engineering deptt, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and Transport deptt has set up target and action plan for mitigating the impact of climate change. He further said that Chandigarh Administration is fully committed to reduce use of fossil fuel and to promote car pooling system so as to have less adverse impact on the environment. Today, the representatives of Bla Bla Car Company have demonstrated - how 'through an app', people can communicate with each other and can save lot of fossil fuel and help in reducing carbon emissions and congestion on fuel.    Our association with Bla Bla Car is an initiative that helps to make Chandigarh a smart city to help reduce carbon emissions, save fuel and the environment.

Raghav Gupta, Country Head, Bla Bla Car also made a presentation highlighting the special feature of Bla Bla Car. Around 100 participants from various parts of the city participated in the Conference. Representatives from various Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation firms participated in the Conference.
