Chandigarh 13th August:- Indian School of Business and CII Young Indians (Yi) Chandigarh Tricity Chapter in partnership with Rumour Books India has launched an interschool competition,CADENCE – Think Big Contest. The competition will be held among school students of grades 9–11, in and around Tricity from 11 August to 1 October 2014. Ms Pooja Vashisht Alexander, a renowned figure in the literary society shared tips on book review writing with over 35 teachers and students from Tricity Schools at the Orientation Session on CADENCE – Think Big Contest held today at CII NR Headquarters.
Ms Alexander mentioned, "that one has to be a good reader to become a better writer. The ideas and style of writing majorly relies upon the reading habit. The key to win a writing competition is READ, READ and READ.
Amit Chugh, Co-Chairman, Yi Chandigarh Tricity Chapter said, that the objective of the competition is to encourage reading habit among students at School Level. The Contest will give an apt exposure to the students to quality literature and will prove to be a value added substance in their learning by helping them to improve their reading skills and to widen their knowledge base. He added that Cadence is another wonderful initiative of Yi with ISB, which will encourage students and help them in sharpening their reading & writing skills in the long run. The contest would be held in two phases. Level 1 would be at the individual school level, which would be a Book Review Competition out of the set of books provided to the schools. The second phase would be an Inter-School Short story writing competition on a given theme.
J Chokalingam, Associate Director, Indian School of Business (ISB) said, that Cadence-2014 is conceptualized to inculcate reading and writing habits among the budding minds. This is a social initiative to serve the Tricity Schools with an unstinting support of Young Indians-CII and Rumours Book India.
Sharing the set of books to be given to the students, Ms Amanjot Kaur, Chair-Yuva, Yi Chandigarh Tricity Chapter said that the books include 'I am Malala' by Malala Yousafzai, 'The Fault in our Stars' by John Green and 'A Shot at History' by Abhinav Bindra.
Reekrit Serai, Managing Director, Rumours India said, that through CADENCE, we want children from Tricity schools to experience the pleasure of being published authors and hope to encourage the next generation of young, budding writers and readers.
