Chandigarh 07th June:- The 4th Pitch 'n' Putt Golf Tournament for Junior and Sub Junior Boys and Girls was inaugurated by I.P.S Mann, Vice-President of Chandigarh Golf Club by hitting a shot at The British School Golf Academy's, 9-Hole Miniature Golf Course in Sec-44 B, Chandigarh. The tournament will be played out between 80, golfers in the age group of 8 to 18 years till June 8, 2014 and the prize distribution to victorious participants will take place in the afternoon of June 8 at The British School, Chandigarh. The competition which started today is taking place between young golfers, both boys & girls, under five different age groups. 'A' group is for children between 16-18 years; 'B' for 13-15 years, 'C' for 10-12 years, 'D' below 10 years and 'E' & 'F' is for beginners. On day one of the tournament some excellent skill play was demonstrated by young Golfers.
The 4th edition of Pitch 'N' Putt tourney commencing today, is organised by The British School, Chandigarh every year. Said Ms. Mona Sethi, Principal, The British School, Chandigarh, that we have been constantly striving to promote golf among budding players, by organizing tournaments and camps every year. The British School Golf Academy, Chandigarh, is endorsed by Chandigarh Golf Club & Indo Canadian Golf Association, Canada and is a first class golf training ground for children. The tournament is being played on gross score basis. This will be calculated after two rounds of 9 holes each are played by the children on two days. The technical aspect is being handled by experts of the Academy of Golf, Chandigarh Golf Club.
Manjit Kochar, Jt Director, Academy of Golf, said, that the British School, Chandigarh's miniature golf course is an excellent facility for young children to learn the basics of the game. In all categories there will be prizes for top three players. We also have prizes for nearest to pin and hole-in-one on both days. Participation of caddies has gone up this year and 5-6 caddies are also playing.
Both budding golfers and their parents are thrilled about the Pitch 'n' Putt tournament. An 8-year old participant Jasmine Kaur from The British School, Chandigarh said that the tournament gives me an opportunity to improve my playing skills and build confidence through participation. Jasmine's mother Mrs. Gaganpreet Kaur too is excited about the platform provided by the tournament to his son. According to her, the tournament will give my son encouragement and motivation to hone golfing skills, which will stand him in good stead in future.
