Chandigarh 21st June:- The Deptt. of Dermatology, PGI is going to  organize World Vitiligo Day on 25th June .  Vitiligo (Leucoderma) affects 1 to 4% world population and this is not a very well researched disease.  This disease has huge psycho-social stigma attached to it and there are many misconceptions about it.  In India and perhaps elsewhere also men, women and children with vitiligo face severe psychological and social problems.  It is more severe in the case of young women and children.  There are various myths about this disease like unnecessary dietary restrictions etc.

According to the spokesperson of the PGI, World Vitiligo Day was started 3 years back with the aim to focus on this disease with international collaborative research and public awareness campaign about various myths and realities.  This year it is being organized at Chandigarh at world level and we are planning many activities on that day.
