Vitiligo (phulvehri) is a pigmentary disorder of great cosmetic concern and social stigma in India. In this disorder, patients develop single to multiple asymptomatic white spots over various parts of the body. The department of Dermatology at PGIMER runs a pigmentary clinic on every Friday which provides special care to this group of patients. The department registered 673 new patients of vitiligo and 2330 follow up patients visited the pigmentary clinic last year.  The departmental faculty has been in the forefront with respect to taking care of vitiligo patients and research regarding this disease. We have made significant contribution in basic research pertaining to natural course of the disease, types of vitiligo, disease epidemiology, psychosocial impact, its pathogenesis, biology of melanocytes, and several new medical and surgical modalities of treatment. The research work being undertaken in the department on vitiligo has been published in various international journals and presented in many national and international conferences and other public forums.
