Chandigarh, 19th June:--Senior Punjab Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar, who claims to have been sent to Punjab to strengthen Cong hold in Punjab for upcoming Lok Sabha elections, today expressed the need for the party bigwigs to come forward for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections so as to counter BJP, Akalis and the Badals in the state.
A loyal Cong worker, Brar said that Punjab Chief Minister Prakask Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Harsimrat Kaur Badal were strong contenders from the Akali side. When asked about his opinion on possible Congress contenders, Brar said "Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh should be asked to contest from Bathinda parliamentary constituency against sitting SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal should be put up from Sangrur, while present PPCC chief and sitting Gurdaspur MP Partap Singh Bajwa should be asked to seek re-election from his constituency. Union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur should also fight from Patiala."
He said that if Congress chief Sonia Gandhi was willing than Brar was also ready to contest against Harsimrat Kaur Badal from Bathinda constituency. The former Lok Sabha MP said that he would extend full support to the newly-appointed PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa, who happened to be his classmate. Brar also said that he welcomed Congress decision of sending him back to his roots that is Punjab. He clarified that he could not attend the coronation ceremony of Bajwa as he was not in India at that time. Brar also welcomed the induction of Capt Amarinder Singh as special invitee into Congress Working Committee.
Brar said that he would be lending his full support to the party and that he did not want any office for himself. "I am in favor of an alliance between Congress and People's Party of Punjab (PPP) for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Brar also said that he would prefer to contest for the state assembly from Muktsar constituency if given an opportunity. He said that Indian politics was passing through a juncture of crossroads and BJP was promoting political polarization in the country. "I have always fought against communal forces and I am going to fight the menace of facism with all might," he added.
