Chandigarh police arrests a member of inter-state chain snatcher gang

Chandigarh 15th June  : With the arrest of accused Vicky s/o Joginder Singh r/o Village Valli Pur, PS Siana, Distt Buland Shahar (UP), presently residing at House No.464, Village Lohgarh, Distt Mohali, Punjab, the Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has achieved a major success in solving 20 cases of chain-snatching & 01 case of motorcycle theft registered with different police stations of the city. Till date, 20 snatched gold-chains and 01 stolen Pulsar Motorcycle have been recovered from the said accused. 
On a secret information, accused Vicky was arrested from near Centra Mall, Industrial Area, Phase-I, Chandigarh on 06.06.2013 at 3.00 PM in Case FIR No.99 dated 14.04.2013 u/s 473/379/411 IPC, PS Ind Area, Chandigarh, registered on the statement of Sandeep Rana r/o # 11, Village Behlana, UT/Chandigarh regarding theft of his Pulsar Motorcycle No.CH-01-AQ-8433 from Shiv Shakti Mandir Sector-30. At the time of arrest, the accused had displayed fake number CH-01-AM-9467 on the motorcycle. During interrogation, it has been revealed that accused Vicky alongwith his accomplice Suraj @ Sanjay s/o Banwari of Uttar Pradesh, presently absconding, used to snatch gold-chains from different areas of the city by using stolen motorcycle. 

Accused Vicky has previous criminal record. Besides of the above mentioned cases, he has already been arrested by the Chandigarh Police in 47 cases of snatching & theft registered against him in various police stations of the city. Out of these 47 cases, in 27 cases he has been convicted and in 02 cases he jumped bail and consequently declared as Proclaimed Offender in both the cases. In the context, it is also worth mentioning that the said accused has also been arrested in various cases by Panchkula and Mohali Police various times. 

Accused Vicky is on police remand upto 17.06.2013. Further interrogations are going-on to find out his involvement in other criminal cases. The other accused Suraj @ Sanjay is at large and efforts are being made to arrest him.
