Chandigarh, February 1, 2025:-The UT Cricket Association (UTCA) has announced the launch of the Chandra Shekhar Azad T20 Tournament, the first-ever franchisee-based cricket tournament in the city. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club on Saturday. UTCA President Sanjay Tandon unveiled the details of the much-anticipated league. The tournament is set to commence on February 7, 2025, and will feature six franchisee-owned teams competing in a total of 33 matches, including two semifinals and a grand finale on February 23. The matches will be played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, and will be broadcast live on Fancode, ensuring a wider reach for cricket fans.
The six participating franchisees have been allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, maintaining transparency in ownership. The confirmed teams include HIIMS Hawks(owned by Acharya Manish), Talanoa Tigers (owned by Harkiran Singh), Punjab Panthers (owned by Pransh Gilhotra), Wild Wood Warriors (owned by Sukhdev Singh), City Challengers (owned by Sanjeev Vohra), and Manohar Mavericks (owned by Taran Inder Singh Bunny). This franchise system is expected to bring a fresh, competitive edge to cricket in Chandigarh while providing a platform for emerging cricketers to showcase their talent at a professional level.
While addressing the press conference, UTCA President Sanjay Tandon highlighted that the tournament is dedicated to the legendary freedom fighter Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad, paying tribute to his valiant spirit. He also emphasized that this initiative aims to promote local cricketing talent and strengthen Chandigarh's reputation as a hub for sports. Tournament Executive Chairman Dr. Rupesh Singh expressed his confidence in the event's success, citing the enthusiastic participation of franchisees and players. He also invited cricket enthusiasts, sponsors, and media representatives to engage with the league actively.
The press conference was attended by CA Alok Krishan (Treasurer, UTCA), Apex Council Member Daniel Banerjee, and other UTCA officials. Team owners are set to announce their celebrity ambassadors soon, further adding to the excitement surrounding the tournament. With its franchisee-based structure, live telecast, and strong competitive lineup, the Chandra Shekhar Azad Memorial T20 Tournament promises to be a landmark event in Chandigarh's cricketing history.
