Franchise-Based Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament from Feb 7, Review meeting chaired by UTCA President Sanjay Tandon

Chandigarh, January 19, 2025:-The Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) is all set to launch the second edition of the Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament. Scheduled to kick off on February 7, 2025, the tournament will be held at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, featuring six teams competing on a franchise model similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL). A review meeting, chaired by UTCA's President Sanjay Tandon, was held to finalize the outline and assign responsibilities to the core team. The initiative aims to promote cricket among the youth and corporates, fostering local talent while providing a professional platform for players.Dr Rupesh Singh has been appointed as Tournament's Chairman while Daniel Banerji has been assigned as convenor.
The tournament will feature 30 league matches, two semi-finals, and a grand final on February 23, 2025. Each team will consist of a 15 players squad from seniors, Under-23 and Under-19 players registered with UTCA. The teams will play five matches each in the league stage, with the top teams advancing to the knockout rounds. Matches will be played daily, with two games scheduled per day. Cricket enthusiasts can catch all the action live on the OTT platform Fan Code, ensuring a wide audience for the tournament.

For the franchise ownership of the six teams, bids are open to corporates and industrialists. This franchise-based model aims to encourage investment in sports and create a sustainable ecosystem for cricket in the region.

This tournament represents a significant milestone in Chandigarh's cricketing history, combining the excitement of T20 cricket with the goal of nurturing young talent. The league is poised to become a premier event on the regional cricketing calendar, bringing together players, sponsors, and fans for a celebration of the sport.
