Chandigarh, October 20, 2024:--The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Government of India, is set to organize a media workshop or 'Vartalap' on the theme of disaster management, at Bachat Bhawan, Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. The workshop, held in collaboration with the Chamba District Administration, will strive to generate a meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas and perspectives between the state and various stakeholders especially the media, on the theme of 'Disaster Management'. The Vartalap will also serve as an opportunity to strengthen coordination between PIB as the government of India's nodal communication organisation on the one hand and the media at the district level on the other hand.
The inaugural session of the Vartalap will be graced by Chamba Deputy Commissioner, Mukesh Repaswal, who will serve as the chief guest. During the workshop, experts from various departments, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Armed Forces, District Disaster Management Authority, Health Department, Tourism Department, and Forest Department, will share their insights with the media on various dimensions of disaster management including disaster preparedness, mitigation and response strategies. The workshop will thus serve as a forum to share information and exchange ideas about the Government's policies, programmes, and initiatives on disaster management.
The workshop will be structured into multiple sessions, each followed by an open Q&A forum to encourage active participation and exchange of ideas. Media professionals will have the opportunity to voice their expectations from the government and especially from PIB and the government's information delivery mechanisms, facilitating a more efficient communication process.The 'Vartalap' is aimed to be an engaging and interactive platform, enhancing media outreach and strengthening disaster management efforts through informed and enlightened journalism.
The 'Vartalap' is designed to help build the capacity of journalists working at the block, sub-district, and district levels. It also aims to develop a streamlined information flow between PIB and various levels of media and help gather valuable feedback on key policy issues. The workshop will help establish direct communication channels between PIB's regional offices and district-level journalists to ensure timely access to official communications including press releases and other material.
