Oral Health Sciences Head Elected President of IDA

Chandigarh 01st December:- Dr Krishan Gauba, Head, Oral Health Sciences Centre, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh took over as the President of Indian Dental Association (IDA), Chandigarh State branch during the elections held by Annual General Body. Dr Shipra Gupta, Associate Professor at the HS Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, Punjab University, as the Vice President and Dr. Gurvinder Dhamija, a private practitioner as 'President elect'. Dr Sachin Rai of PGI was elected as the Convenor, Continuing Dental Education Programmes and Dr. Maneel Grover as the Convenor for the Continuing Dental Health Programmes. Dr Krishan Gauba, Dr. RP Gupta Dr. Ashima Goyal and Dr. Davinder Kumar, were appointed as Central Council members and Dr BR Paruthi, Dr SP Singh, Dr Gautam Munjal, Dr Gurvanit Lehl, Dr. OP Verma and Dr Parampreet Pannu,were appointed as the Executive committee members for this year.

PGI Pathologist and Endocrinologists Win Laurels

Chandigarh 01st December:- Dr. Aravind Sekar, Senior Resident, Department of Pathology, PGI, Chandigarh got the Nalini Bai Thakkar award at the 45th Annual Conference of Indian Academy of Cytologists held at Himalayan Institute  of Medical Sciences, Dehradun (UK). The title of his paper was "Role of Cytologist in subtyping and EGFR testing in non-small cell lung cancer: An institutional experience".

Two DM students and three Research Scholars from Department of Endocrinology, PGIMER participated in various events and won the five prizes organized at the 11th Conference of Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ISBMR) held at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.  Dr Sanjay Bhadada, Additional Professor, Department of Endocrinology selected as Secretary of the society. Team of Dr. Suja P. Kumar & Dr. Anshita Aggrawal won second prize in DM Quiz competition, Ashutosh Kumar Arya won second prize in oral presentation for work on Cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors in primary hyperparathyroidism and Ms Gurjeet Kaur & Ms. Vandana Dhiman won first and second prize in poster presentation respectively.

 

‘The Silent Heroes’: Story of The Courage of 13 Real Life Deaf Children

Chandigarh 01st December:- It is the story of courage, dedication and a never to die spirit. 'The Silent Heroes' is a Hindi film by Hans Productions & Reality Films and it is a story of 13 real deaf children and how they fulfill their dreams. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, a resident of Dehradun, the film has been produced by Kamal Birani and Mahesh Bhatt himself.

The cast includes Maanuv Bhardwaj, Priyanka Panchal, Mann Bagga, Simran Deep, Nirmal Kumar Pant & child artists Gurfareen, Khwaish, Aashish, Jaideep, Tarun, Prakhar, Radhika, Shweta, Shalini, Uzef, Renu, Nikhil & Samreen. The story has been penned down by Dr. Piyoosh Rautela who also happens to be one of the screenplay writers along with Rituraj Bhatt.Rahul Mishra has composed the music and written the lyrics of the songs.

Mahesh Bhatt said that the story is about these deaf children who study in a school together and one of their teachers dreams of making them learn mountaineering. Even being refused by the trainer, the children go ahead with their last session of training on an expedition. Somehow the trainer gets injured and the children struggle to save her life.

The film includes five heart-touching songs out of which one has been sung by Sonu Nigam. The film has already been showcased at Goa, Kolkata, Prayag, Lucknow and Purulia Film Festivals.

Producer Kamal Birani told that the film has been shot with children who are deaf in real life. The whole shoot was done with sync sound. The film has been fully shot in Uttarakhand. It will release on December 11.

 

Indo Global group Colleges Mechanical Engineering Students Develope Pollution & Noise Free Battery Operated Vehicle

Chandigarh 01st December:- Mechanical students of Indo Global group Colleges designed Pollution free & noise free battery operated vehicle. The vehicle was designed by Arshdeep ,Bhishek, Bhupinder Saini, Cheten Sharma, Harjinder, Hemant Puri,  Karanvir Singh, Kundan, Parwinder Singh, Sachin, all are  Mechanical Engineering students. The main objective to design this vehicle was to make it economical, eco-friendly and reliable. This is named as e-cart & is capable of carrying 4 to 5 persons. It can travel 70 KM in a single charge at 40-45 Km/hr. The charging time is three hours fast charge & eight hours trickling slow charge. The vehicle's chassis and suspension is fabricated in workshop whereas DC motor, controller and other electrical parts are purchased from market. The market price of similar vehicle is around 2 to 2.5 Lakhs, but students managed to limit its cost below 1.4 Lakhs.

While motivating and encouraging the students Chairman Sukhdev Singla Said that such vehicles has various advantages due to its low cost, safe driving, almost no emission, low maintenance, reduced noise pollution which are demand of the time due to increasing global warming and pollution.

 

Honda Cars Registers Monthly Domestic Sales of 14,712 Units

Chandigarh 01st December:- Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, registered monthly domestic sales of 14,712 units in November 2015 against 15,263 units in the corresponding month last year.  The company registered a cumulative domestic sales of 1,32,095 units in the period April-November 2015 against 1,16,705 units for the corresponding period last year marking a growth of 13%.  HCIL also exported a total of 120  units during November 2015.

After initial screening 7 students of MBA and B.Tech were selected at the salary package of 2.45 lac per annum.

PGI Celebrates World AIDS Day

Chandigarh 01st December:- The Public Health Dispensary Sector 25 run by Department of Community Medicine, PGI Chandigarh,on the occasion of World AIDS Day, organized a health education cum awareness camp in collaboration with Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Mohali branch. The purpose of the camp was dissemination of Information regarding HIV infection with special focus on prevention of transmission of HIV infection in pregnant women and the newborn.

A health talk was given on the prevention of parent to child transmission in HIV to a gathering of around 50 pregnant women and adolescents. Dr. Urvi Sharma, Senior Resident opened the discussion and introduced HIV infection to the audience. Dr. Kirtan Rana, Junior Resident lectured the audience regarding various means to prevent parent to child transmission such as primary prevention, family planning, drug therapy and care of newborn. At the end of the talk an interaction session was held with the audience and their queries were resolved by Kamal Behal, Gurdev Singh, Mrs. Manpinder kaur, Ms Arvinder Kaur. Health education material such as pamphlets and informative booklets were distributed to all the attendees.

 

 

CII Yi Discusses Financial Literacy with School Students

Chandigarh 01st December:- Confederation of Indian Industry's Young Indians (Yi) Chandigarh tricity chapter organised a session on Financial Literacy at Vivek High School Chandigarh to accentuate the importance of financial planning in today's world in the young minds.

Sukhdeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Innovative Financial Management while interacting with the students of XI and XII, provided details on the various aspects of the financial world namely inflation, risk v/s return, asset allocation, tax saving, mutual funds, systematic investment plan, term insurance, health insurance, higher education& marriage planning and retirement planning. He provided a Monthly budget activity sheet to the students which would help the students in keeping track of their monthly incomes and monthly savings. He was very positive that this activity will help the students in learning how to save money.

He repeatedly suggested the students to visit their bank and get their savings account opened. He also gave examples of Warren Buffet one of the richest persons in the world and encouraged the students by stating Warren Buffet started saving at the age of 11 years. He further shared the information about the major factors influencing investments, the time value of money, the principals of investment, which included investing early and regularly and investing on a long term basis.  The session concluded with details on the importance of having a systematic investment plan (SIP).

Amit Chugh, Chair, Yi Chandigarh Tricity Chapter and Director, Midas Touch Advisors Pvt Ltd stated that these types of sessions are very beneficial to the students and will teach them a lot about how saving money is important and beneficial in life. It will also help the students in spending money wisely.

Director Tourism, Chandigarh Administration, Jitender Yadav, said that the festival is symbolic of the glorious tradition of Art, Culture and Heritage of the Country, which will be inaugurated by Vijay Dev Adviser to Administrator U.T on 3rd December, 2015(Thursday) at 6.00 PM at the Tagore Theatre, Sector-18, Chandigarh.  

Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said that it has been a constant endeavour of the Chandigarh Administration over the years to showcase a spectrum of diverse cultural ethos of the country in this festival. The mega culture confluence encompasses the variegated Indian Classical music and dance genres, theatrical art, and visual as well as literary art. He further said that the main idea to organize the event to add more and more people with our Art and Culture. Smart City Mission:Adviser Hold Meeting To Discuss the Smart City Proposal

Chandigarh 01st December:- To discuss the Smart City Proposal of Chandigarh, a meeting regarding Smart City Mission was held today at U.T. Secretariat. Chaired by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator.  Sarvjit Singh, Finance Secretary, Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary, Smt. Bhawna Garg, Commissioner, MC, Danish Ashraf, SDM (East)-cum-Nodal Officer Smart City, Bhupesh Chaudhary, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and senior officers from Engineering and Architecture Department of the Chandigarh Administration were also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, a presentation was shared with the worthy Adviser regarding the Smart City Proposal of Chandigarh. Certain points and alterations were suggested to be inculcated within the presentation. Once the final proposal is prepared, the same would be uploaded online tomorrow on mygov.in for the knowledge and feedback of residents.
