By 121 News

Amritsar, Nov.15, 2025:- Livasa Hospital, Amritsar — Punjab's leading NABH-accredited super-specialty hospital — has successfully performed a complex neurosurgical procedure on a 54-year-old female patient diagnosed with a 4th ventricle choroid plexus papilloma, a rare and challenging condition located deep within the brain.

The patient was admitted to Livasa Hospital with severe headache, repeated vomiting, blurred vision, difficulty in walking, and progressively decreasing consciousness. She was admitted under the care of Dr. Amanjot Singh Boparai, Consultant – Neurosurgery, Livasa Hospital, Amritsar, After a detailed evaluation, imaging revealed the presence of a 4th ventricle tumor, which required urgent and meticulous surgical intervention and further under Dr. Manish Gupta's, (Consultant – Critical Care), guidance the team managed the patient's critical condition and helped stabilize her until she was restored to health.

The patient underwent two critical neurosurgical procedures —

  1. Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) Shunt to relieve intracranial pressure, followed by
  2. Microscopic Excision of the Tumor, performed using the latest neuronavigation and intraoperative ultrasound techniques to ensure precision and safety.

Despite the complexity of the tumor's location — in close proximity to vital brain structures — the surgery was conducted successfully. The patient made a remarkable recovery post-surgery and was discharged within 10–12 days. She is now fully conscious, walking normally, has regained her vision, and has returned to her routine household activities.

Speaking about the achievement, Dr. Amanjot Singh, Consultant – Neurosurgeon, Livasa Hospital, Amritsar, said that this case was exceptionally challenging due to the deep-seated nature of the tumor and the risk involved in preserving vital neurological functions. With the use of cutting-edge technologies like neuronavigation and intraoperative ultrasound, we were able to achieve complete tumor excision with excellent post-operative recovery. This success reinforces the availability of world-class neurosurgical care right here in Amritsar.
