Chandigarh, August 23, 2025:— Hockey Chandigarh organized a grand ceremony at Hotel Hyatt Centric, Sector 17, to unveil the Hero Asia Cup Men's Hockey 2025 Trophy. The event was marked by enthusiasm as Chandigarh got the honor of welcoming the prestigious trophy ahead of the tournament scheduled in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 29 to September 7, 2025.
Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill and Punjab MP Malvinder Singh Kang were the special guests of the occasion. Both dignitaries jointly unveiled the trophy and extended their best wishes to Team India for the upcoming championship.
Speaking at the event, Jimmy Shergill said that Hockey is a heritage deeply tied to our national sporting spirit. Such tournaments inspire the youth to take up sports and bring pride to India.
MP Malvinder Singh Kang added that events like the Asia Cup are not just about sports but also promote unity and brotherhood. It is a matter of pride that India is hosting this mega event.
On this occasion, Hockey Chandigarh President Karan Gilhotra welcomed the dignitaries and lauded the contribution of players who continue to bring glory to the city. He emphasized that Chandigarh, known as the nursery of Indian hockey, would strive to reach new heights through such initiatives.
The ceremony also celebrated another proud achievement — the Chandigarh Men's Hockey Team, which won the Bronze Medal in the 1st Hockey India Masters Games 2025. The team was felicitated with shawls and mementos in recognition of their remarkable performance and for bringing laurels to the City Beautiful.
Prominent office-bearers of Hockey Chandigarh, including Dr. P.J. Singh (Senior Vice President), Prof. Sudesh Gupta, Anil Vohra, Satinder Sharma, Sarvesh Sharma, Simardeep Kaur, Ajay Singh, Paramjit Sekhon, G.S. Gill, Amolak Singh, Rajinder Gandhi, T.P. Singh, Avtar Singh, and Gurminder Singh, were also present. Dr. P.J. Singh expressed gratitude to the special guests and assured continuous efforts for the promotion of hockey, India's national game.
The 12th edition of the Hero Asia Cup will feature India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia, along with two teams qualifying through the AHF Cup. The tournament is expected to be a milestone for Indian sports infrastructure and give Bihar a prominent place on the international hockey map. Notably, Rajgir successfully hosted the Women's Asian Champions Trophy in November 2024, where India emerged victorious.
