International Literacy Day Celebrated at DBU

Chandigarh September 10, 2020:- The Department of Languages in collaboration with the Department of Education celebrated 54th International Literacy Day as per the theme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) i.e. "changes and challenges in learning during the COVID-19 pandemic". More than 268 students and staff members joined the webinar. 

Dr. Renu Sharma, Assistant Professor in English and Ms Amritpal Kaur, Assistant Professor in Hindi delivered an expert lecture on the importance of literacy and education, changes and challenges in learning.

Dr.Zora Singh, Chancellor, said that we have seen the dedication of educators during this unprecedented situation, and we salute them for their perseverance. It is not only specialized educationists, however, as youth is the future of every country so they must come forward to educate the society, as literacy is the most powerful accelerator of sustainable development in any country of the world.

Dr.Tejinder Kaur ,Pro Chancellor Desh Bhagat University said that this year the education system has found innovative and effective pedagogies that can be used in youth and adult literacy programmes to face the pandemic and beyond. This change has taught us that every situation has a solution.

Director, Dr. Surjeet Kaur Patheja, said that education is the basic human right and we must make education accessible to everyone.

She thanked everyone for their valuable contribution.
