Chandigarh 12th July:- Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER Chandigarh under the able guidance of Professor Dr Arun Kumar Aggarwal and in collaboration with Swami Devi Dyal College of Nursing, Barwala, District Panchkula celebrated World Population Day in Rehana-a Minority Population dominated village in Raipur Rani block of Panchkula district. A total of forty females in their reproductive age group (15 to 49 years) were educated about the various types of contraceptives available, their effectiveness, side effects, so that the females could make an informed choice of the same.

PGI teammates Dr Kanica Kaushal, Senior Resident and Mrs Jagdeep Rana, Multipurpose health worker posted in Village Kheri, counselled women for appropriate contraceptive methods best suited for them.Nursing students under the mentorship of Principal Dr. Saroj Parwez and Miss Kalpana Mohan prepared a skit showing that family life with one or two children is happy and fulfilling, enabling them to do things not otherwise possible within a larger family.  Sarpanch of Rehana village Alamgir actively mobilised the community and is keen for further such activities in Rehana.

Taking this collaboration forward, we are planning to conduct sensitisation programmes in the upcoming Nutrition week in the first week of August to create awareness and bring about behavior change in this community.
