Chandigarh 20th July:- To observe Van Mahotsav-2016 in a befitting manner by involving various Greening agencies like NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, Eco-Clubs besides Government agencies, Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration organized 'Herbal Day' today at Govt. Model Sr.Sec. School, Sector 47-D, in which Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh was the Chief Guest.
On this occasion, Santosh Kumar, CCF & Director (Sci. & Tech. & RE) and .Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh jointly inaugurated 50 kWp Rooftop Solar Power Plant at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 47-D, UT Chandigarh.
After inaugurating the Solar Plant, Santosh Kumar, IFS planted the sapling of 'Safed Musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) and Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS planted the sapling of 'Insulin (Costus Igneus)'at school premises and also distributed herbal plants among school children, teachers and staff.
Ajit Balaji Joshi, emphasized about the need of herbal plants in curing of our day-to-day health problems and exhorted school students to be sensitive towards nature and plant more & more trees so as to make Chandigarh a cleaner city. He suggested that each student at the initial stage say at Class One shall be asked to plant one tree and should take care of it till Class- X and this should be part of his and her assessment.
Santosh Kumar, CCF & Director (S&T&RE) informed that 50 kWp Rooftop Solar Power Plant Project has been installed by CREST through M/s C&S Electric Limited, New Delhi, who is the contracting firm. The total cost of the Project is Rs.49.95 Lac which includes operation & maintenance charge for 10 years. The Plant shall be able to generate minimum 65,000 kWh (Units) per year. The Central Government has set a target of installing 50 MW Rooftop Solar Power Plants in Chandigarh by 2022. Though it is a huge task but Chandigarh Administration is committed in achieving it by providing various incentives and pro active policies. This is very much desirable for mitigating the ill effects of climate change. He further urged the students that each one of you to plant at least one tree every year in the monsoon season so that our planet Earth is kept Green.
Birendra Choudhary, Deputy Conservator of Forests(HQ), UT Chandigarh, Arpana, Deputy Conservator of Forests(BG&NR), District Education Officer, UT, Principals/ Eco Club Incharges of various schools and Om Prakash, Coordinator/ Overall Incharge of all Eco Clubs and Principal of the School and other Senior Officers/ officials of Chandigarh Administration were present during the function.
The overall objective of celebrating the 'Herbal Day' is to sensitize the masses especially school children to generate awareness about the medicinal values of various plants available in nature and to make Chandigarh more clean & green city. The 'Herbal Day' is being celebrated across all Eco Clubs in various schools of Chandigarh.
