Chandigarh 02nd September:- On 15th August, when the entire nation was celebrating 69th year of independence, seven talented youngsters made the country proud by being the first Indians to participate and win the prestigious championship. The dance troupe not just won the title but being the most popular among the crowd, they were even awarded the 'Crowds Favorite' trophy. Armed with the recent win, the troupe led by Shantanu Maheshwari, Macedon Dmello and Nimit Kotian, re-visited the city of Chandigarh that showered them with love, affection and support during their earlier stay prior to their competition.
What started as a dream, culminated into a team – Desi Hoppers that went on to represent India at the international mecca of dance – The World of Dance 2015. Comprising of seven members, Shantanu Maheswari, Macedon De'Mello, Nimit Kotian, Rohan Vyas, Viraj Pandya, Subhash Naidu and Niraj Lama, the boys are from varied backgrounds who got together to live one dream – to represent their country at the most coveted dance platforms. Hailing from Kolkata, Shantanu set out the hunt for his dream team with Macedon and Nimit, who are not just Shantanu's college friends but also based out of Mumbai. While they scouted Suhbash, Niraj and Viraj from the nooks & corners from the city of Dreams – Mumbai, they spotted Rohan in Baroda. While Shantanu, Macedon and Nimit saw this dream while they were in college, the rest joined them as their quest to make Desi Hoppers began.
The Desi Hoppers not only won millions of hearts with their energized performance, but also won the Championship and Crowd's favorite at the competition, beating 14 countries across 34 performances in the finals. They have gone on to be the first ever Indian crew to have bagged the first place in the dance fraternity in the international circuit.
Excited about their win and the subsequent visit to the youthful city of Chandigarh, Desi Hoppers said that the feeling of winning the 'World of Dance' has finally seeped in and the happiness is way too much to express in words. We have waited for this moment for a long time and now that we have won, the continued celebration was worth the wait. The last time we visited the city, we were overwhelmed by the response and revisiting the place with the trophy has made this tour even more memorable. We would like to thank each and everyone for the love and blessings they have showered upon us.
The Desi Hoppers's journey of making their dream into a reality has been chronicled in a TV show "bindass NAACH", now a 12 episode series, which went on air August 16, the day the troupe won the global competition. The show goes on air every Sunday at 7:00 pm on bindass.
