By 121 News

Chandigarh 18th April:-The Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Leprology is organizing Dermatopathology Workshop and Dermatology CME in collaboration with Departments of Pathology GMCH 32 and Department of Histopathology, PGIMER on 18th and 19th of April 2015 in PGIMER.

Clinico-pathological correlation is the key element in dermatology practice; however in India, dermatopathology has been somewhat slow to develop as a separate subspeciality.  They are very few trained dermatopathologists and dermatopathology training is also not up to the mark in many teaching hospitals and colleges.  Dermatopathology Workshop being organized under the aegis of the Dermatopathology Society of India is one such effort to bridge this gap and to sensitize the young dermatologists and pathologists to Dermatopathology. The response to both Dermatopathology Workshop and CME has been encouraging from both dermatologists and pathologists. Dr Dipankar De, Organizing Secretary; Dr Sanjeev Handa, Organizing Chairperson, and Dr R K Vasishta, Organizing Chairperson told us that the response has been overwhelming and more than 250 delegates have registered so far.

The CME topics have been chosen to include common and relevant issues that a dermatologist faces regularly.  The CME topics include acne, hand eczema, atopic dermatitis, hemangiomas and psoriasis, which are common chronic conditions associated with significant distress and need multidisciplinary care. There has been rapid development in understanding the pathogenesis and effectively managing these often difficult to manage chronic diseases.  These recent developments are scheduled to be discussed.

Another important area that is being discussed is dermatological emergencies or acute skin failure like erythroderma or severe adverse drug reactions, majority of these patients are referred to or managed in institutes or hospitals. Cosmetic induced dermatitis and hand eczemas are also very relevant issues. The CME will give an opportunity to all young and practicing dermatologists to share their views and problems with the experts in the field.
