Chandigarh 10th March:- Confederation of Indian Industry, Chandigarh Council and Nottingham City Council (NCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the cities of Chandigarh region and Nottingham, UK here today.
Chris Henning, Director – Economic Development, Nottingham City Council mentioned that as part of the priorities set out in Nottingham's Growth Plan, Nottingham City Council has chosen Chandigarh as the third city to sign a MoU with the objective to boost trade ties between the communities of the two regions. Nottingham would be signing MoUs with only four cities globally. This is a new start between north India & Nottingham to learn from each other's experience and take benefit of the progressing industry in the two cities. A vibrant Punjabi community in Nottingham would support the efforts of the City Council to create business opportunities and building bridges between Chandigarh & Nottingham. He added that Nottingham is a perfect investment platform for companies in the Chandigarh region, who are keen to tap into the growing UK market due to its strategic location advantage and immense connectivity. Nottingham's central UK location is a key advantage for businesses that locate here with close proximity to most UK regions.
Amarbir Singh, Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council said that CII & Nottingham City Council will make best endeavors to exchange information on all economic and commercial matters with regards to Chandigarh and Nottingham, including specific industrial & services sectors relevant to both cities. Both CII & NCC will actively promote investments, collaborations, exchange of business delegations and work together in developing small and medium scale industries.
David Lelliott, OBE, British Deputy High Commissioner, Northwest India said, that this relationship is not about brick & mortar investments but it is about people, bringing people together and working with them. The signing of this MoU will encourage people from Chandigarh region to invest in Nottingham and vice versa and become partners in progress of the two cities.
Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII Northern Region shared that the priority areas for cooperation between CII & NCC include information and communication technology, manufacturing and advanced engineering, smart cities, life sciences, retail, creative industries, clean-technology and skill development including industry – academia interface.
