Chandigarh 21st November:- MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized an Indian Council of Philosophical Research sponsored lecture series and a host of other events to commemorate World Philosophy Day. Organised under the aegis of Philosophy department of the college, the lecture series aimed to engage in philosophical reflections on current issues and society challenges.
Eminent scholars from various universities delivered lecture on the occasion. In his lecture on "Philosophy and Literature" Dr. Satya Pal Gautam, Former Vice Chancellor of Rohilkhand University and Professor of JNU, New Delhi spoke about connection between the two disciplines. Chairperson of Department of Philosophy, Panjab University, Chandigarh Dr. Shivani Sharma shared her views on "Art". The Medicine for the corrupt consciousness, while Prof Lallan S. Bahel from the same department enlightened the students on the topic " Understanding Feminist Political Philosophy". Lecture on "Globalization" by Department f History, Panjab University, Chandigarh wrapped up the series. The week long celebration of World Philosophy Day also included Poster Making Competition and Essay Writing competition on " Gandhian Philosophy", Nikit Charan bagged First position in essay writing competition while 2nd and 3rd position were bagged by Kanupriya and ssaffy, respectively. Students also presented a vivid dramatized representation of the story of Indian and Western Philosophy.
Congratulating the department for its unique initiative, the principal of the college Dr. Puneet Bedi reiterated that by celebrating World Philosophy Day, we want to underline the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought and culture.
