PGI Organises RBSK Dental Training Programme

Chandigarh 21st August:- Under Rashtriya Bal Swashthya Karykram (RBSK), a 5 day National Level Training of Trainers Program for management of Dental conditions, from 19-23, August has been inaugurated today in PGIMER. Mrs Navraj Sandhu, Addl chief Secretary Health chaired the inauguration ceremony along with Dr. Deepti Khanna, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Y K Chawla, director PGIMER, Dr KGauba, Chief and Head, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Health Sciences Center, PGIMER and Dr Ashima Goyal , Professor , Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Health Sciences Center, PGIMER.This training program was organized by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and is attended by 33, dental surgeons from different States and UTs of the country. Dr. Deepti Khanna presented the Resource book on Dental conditions by RBSK to Mrs Navraj Sandhu, Addl chief Secretary Health, Haryana. Dr Deepti Khanna, who is dental surgeon herself briefed the gathering how dental caries in children is spreading like an epidemic and becoming a major public health concern. She stressed on how RBSK is promoting "Oral health for Overall health" for children in age group of 0-18 yrs.

 Mrs Navraj Sandhu in her address said that 50-60% of children in Haryana are suffering from dental caries and complemented Government of India for including Dental condition in the list of 30 conditions to be taken care under RBSK.  She said that Haryana has taken an aggressive stand in rolling out the RBSK program through recruiting Mobile Health teams in all the 119 blocks of the state for early screening of children including dental conditions and establishment of District Early Intervention Centers in all 21 districts for its management.

 In this first ever dental training being organized at the national level in the country by the Govt. of India the trainees are given hands on training, demonstrations and lectures to enable them to manage dental conditions in children and act as mentors for dental surgeons at District Early Intervention Centers in their respective states.
