PGI Begans World Kidney Day Awareness Campaign In New OPD

Chandigarh 13th March:-- The World Kidney Day Awareness Campaign began today in the New OPD Block, of PGI. The programme was inaugurated by the Director of the Institute Prof. Y.K.Chawla in the presence of Medical Superintendent Dr.A.K.Gupta and other senior staff of the Institute.

 Three different counters were managed by the nursing staff, technical staff and other volunteers.  During the day more than 500 people were screened,although it was planned initially for 300 individuals.   The check up included general enquiry of common health problems, height and weight and BMI as well as BP determination.  In addition, the screening was done for Blood Glucose, Random Blood Glucose, Serum Creatinine and Albumin.  Urine was also examined for protein.   In addition, the doctors of the department attended to each patient and discussed their problems before and after the investigations.  There was also counseling for diet in the Renal disease, Hypertension and Diabetes. A  Desk to motivate for Organ Donation was also there. There were a good percentage of patients with undiagnosed Hypertension and Diabetes.  However the percentage of patients having renal dysfucntion could not be calculated as the investigations were still being   processed  till the time of this report.
