Chandigarh,07th July:--Yuvsatta, Oxfam India & KRM Tyres, organized a prize distribution function to mark the culmination of a 'Read Bapu Dham Contest'. In which Madhu Bansal, wife of Former Union Cabinet Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal was the Chief Guest. Harjit Singh, SI, Incharge, Police Post, Sector 26 and Krishan Lal, President of Residents Welfare Association of Sector 26 were also present on the occasion, in which over 250 people of the area participated.
Giving information about the initiative Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta shared that through this fifteen day long Reading Contest at their Kitabghar library in slum settlement Bapu Dham Colony of Chandigarh, they motivated young children to spend most of their leisure time in summer vacations on reading good books and today the 40 best young readers were honoured for the maximum number of books they read in their holidays. A 'Bal Panchayat', to promote active citizenship was also formed and announced on the occasion.
First prize of a brand new bicycle for reading maximum number of books was won by a girl Roshni who got this gift from Madhu Bansal. Later addressing the gathering Madhu Bansal said that promoting good reading habits can lead to good and active citizens in the society, who can be aware of not only their rights but duties towards nation and society as well. She said that value for good education, health and hygiene are the benchmark for any progressive society.
Youngsters of the area also presented colourful cultural programme with skits & speeches promoting 'Girl Child', patriotic songs and group dances.
