Police Arrest One Person with 400 gm Opium

Chandigarh 25^th May:- The operation Cell of Chandigarh Police arrested Kamal Deen of Samadhi Gate, MM, Chandigarh near Shastri Nagar, MM, Chandigarh and recovered 400 Gram of opium from his possession. A Case FIR No. 280 U/S 18 NDPS Act has been registered against him in PS-MM, Chandigarh. Further investigation is going on.

Chandigarh Police on the complaint of Ms. Indu resident of Solan that the driver of Innova Car No. CH-01-AW-1225 namely hit her when she was crossing the road, near Rock Garden, Chandigarh on 24^th of May. She got injured and admitted to GMSH-16. A Case FIR No. 82 U/S 279,337 IPC has been registered in PS-3, Chandigarh. Accused arrested and was later on bailed out. The case has been worked out.

 

 

Chandigarh Junior State Netball Championship on June 9 & 10 at TBS

Chandigarh 25^th May:- The Netball Sports Promotion Association Chandigarh is going to organize Chandigarh Junior State Netball Championship ( Boys & Girls ) under-19 on June 9 and June 10 at The British School Sector 44, Chandigarh.

Addressing media persons here today the President Netball Sports Promotion Association Chandigarh Ranjan Sethi said that the event is aimed at promoting the game amongst masses and encouraging the youngsters. Ranjan Sethi said that the chief guest of opening ceremony on June 9 would be Deputy Director, Panjab University, Sports department Dr Rakesh Mallik, while that of closing ceremony  would be Director of Sports , Panjab University Chandigarh Dr Parminder S Ahluwalia. They added that registration for event can be done with Miss Rupinder Kaur (Mobile No. 9463449800) who has also represented India in Commonwealth games,at The British School Sector 44, Chandigarh on or after May 30, 2015.

Net ball Sports Promotion Association Chandigarh General Secretary, P. S. Lamba said that players (both boys and girls) born on or after April 1, 1997 are eligible to participate in this championship. There will be no entry fee for the championship. He added that the Netball Sports Promotion Association Chandigarh was also organizing National Junior Netball Championship from June 25 to June 28 at The British School Sector 44. For this event all 26 states across India have confirmed that their players will be participating in the event. Around 650-700 players will participate. The boarding & lodging of participants is arranged at The British School Sector 44, Chandigarh. Even arrangements for medical services has also been arranged.

  

 

THA Becomes Innovative option for Joint Disease Patients; Experts

Chandigarh 24^th May:- As many as 150 doctors from region attended a continuing education program (CME) on 'Innovations in total knee & hip arthroplasty -future of orthopedic surgeries ' held at Hotel Western Stella, Bathinda. The CME was organized by the Max Super Specialty Hospital (MSSH), Mohali. During CME, experts from MSSH talked about total knee and hip arthroplasty (THA) which was becoming an innovative surgical treatment option for patients suffering from non-inflammatory or inflammatory degenerative joint diseases. Interestingly THA is powered by Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System (RAIOS) , which allows surgeons to achieve consistently reproducible precision in total joint replacement.

Speaking during occasion, Dr. Manuj Wadhwa, Director & Head, Max Elite Institute of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at MSSH said that now with robotic arm, there was no need to replace the entire knee.  The amazing precision of RAIOS and innovative enabling designs of multi compartmental knee system together would focus purely on restoring the natural knee which was freed from the confines of conventional instrumentation.Talking about accurate leg length restoration while using Robotic arm, he said that leg length discrepancy was one of the most common reasons for dissatisfaction amongst patients following THA. However THA would provide improved leg length precision. He further informed that clinical studies showed that leg length discrepancies of 5mm or more were easily perceived by patients. This could result in discomfort or even walking complications. Accurate leg length and cup position could be difficult to accomplish with only alignment guides or visual assessment.

TBS Golf Academy to Hold Junior Golf Camp from 01st June

Chandigarh 24^th May:- The British School Golf Academy, Chandigarh will hold one month Junior Golf Camp from June 1^st for children ages 5-14 years. The camp will be held twice a week, on Saturday and Sunday.  Children of all the schools of tricity can participate in the golf camp.  The camp will be conducted by Manjit Kochar, Director, Junior Golf Development Programme, ICGA, Canada.  All the participants will be taught basic fundamentals of the game such as putting, chipping, long and short irons including basic rules, etiquette and core values of the game.Players will be registered on first come first basis.

 

 

Shemrock School organise an Inter-School Declamation Contest

Chandigarh 23^rd May:- Shemrock Senior Secondary School organised an inter-school declamation contest at its campus. As many as 37 schools of the tricity participated in this contest. The two topics for the declamation were "handsome is that what handsome does" and "what you sow so shall you reap". Avishi of Shivalik Public School and Aadeshwar Singh and of St John's School bagged the first prize. Whereas Raunak Singh of St John's School got the second prize & Jashanpreet of AKSIPS 65 bagged the third prize. Shubhangi of AKSIPS and Sanjot Singh of Shemrock School got the 1st and 2nd consolation prize respectively.

While Speaking at the moment Education Director Shemrock School, S K Sharma said that education must enable students  to become more efficient and  must train them quick, resolute and effective thinking. Educational goals of developing intelligence articulate character strengths, Creativity, ingenuity, optimism, industry, diligence, and perseverance which can be gained by participating in different competitions. According to him declamation is a fantastic speaking event to improve public speaking prowess. It provides opportunity for budding youth to show their hidden talent.

 

Vineet Joshi Lays Foundation Stone Of Media And Friends Welfare Society

Chandigarh 23^rd May:- The foundation stone laying ceremony of Media and Friends Welfare Society at Sector 123 in Mohali was held today. The assistant media advisor to Government of Punjab, Vineet Joshi conducted ceremony in the presence of the society president Nanki Hans, general secretary Vikram Kanwar and treasurer Gagandeep Arora. 

Vineet Joshi lauded the efforts of media persons in organizing themselves for an affordable housing project. He wished the members success in their endeavor, which will have 96 flats being built at a cost of Rs 30 crore. It is spread on 1.66 acres of land and would be completed in 18 months time period. The project is being built by Gahlot and Sons Company and the property builders are Ashwani and Gurinder.

 

 

 

Crime Branch Apprehend a Nigerian With 28 gms of Cocaine

Chandigarh 23^rd May:- The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police succeeded in apprehending an accused namely Emmanuel Chukwunonye of Nigeria, while he was in possession of 28 gms Cocaine without any license or permit.

While giving detail about it the official of the Chandigarh Police said that on 23.05.2015, during a special drive, a team of Crime Branch was on patrolling duty near Football Stadium, Sector-17, Chandigarh. Suddenly, the team noticed that one pedestrian coming from Bus Stand, Sector-17 side towards Football Stadium. On seeing the police party, the said person tried to escape and turned towards football stadium gate and put out something from the right pocket of his weared black coloured jean pent and tried to throw it. But with prompt action, the team members apprehended him. He further said that on enquiry, he disclosed his name as Emmanuel Chukwunonye s/o Oforka having Nigeria National. On his search, one white small polythene in his palm, having white powder was recovered as cocaine weighing 28 gms, but the accused could not produced any license or permit for its possession. Hence, case FIR No. 168 dated 23.05.2015 u/s 21 NDPS Act, PS-17, Chandigarh has been registered against him. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he used to come from Delhi and stay in the various hotels in the area of Panchkula and Zirakpur and supply drugs to the youngsters in Discos and Pubs with the help of local drug peddlers.  Accused Emmanuel Chukwunonye will be produced before the Hon'ble court tomorrow i.e. 24.05.2015. The investigation of the case is in progress.

 

Adab Foundation organize ‘Meet and greet session’ with Author Shovon Chowdhury

Mitul Dikshit –Chairman of Adab Foundation introduced the author which was followed by a formal book release of Shovon's latest book 'Murder with Bengali Characteristics'. He was in conversation with Ms. Nirupama Dutt, a well known poet, journalist and translator of his latest book 'Murder with Bengali Characteristics'.

Shovon is a Delhi based amateur humourist whose first book 'The Competent Authority' has been shortlisted for crossword book award 2014 and the 'The Hindu literary prize 2014',Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize, The crossword literature prize and Tata Literature Live first Book Prize. His captivating and engaging satire about the crumbling of a secular democracy touched thousands of hearts. His latest Novel Murder with Bengali Characteristics is outrageously funny and wickedly imaginative. Like his book, his session was very gripping and fun filled. During the session shovon encountered some very interesting questions in his own humorous style.

Mitul Dikshit,Chairman, Adab Foundation informed that Adab Foundation is actively involved in spreading literary awareness in tricity and has organized three literature festivals and 2 children's literature festivals. The Meet and Greet Session has been started for the first time in Chandigarh by Adab Foundation and would be held every month to promote good literature in the tri-city.

 

Thalassaemic Children Welfare Association organise Blood Donation Camp

Chandigarh 23^rd May:- Thalassaemic Children Welfare Association (Regd.), PGI Chandigarh, today organised 145^th Blood Donation camp at the Zakir Hall of the PGI.  In this camp 303 units of blood was collected for the blood bank of PGI, Chandigarh.  The camp was inaugurated by Ashok Garg, Govt. Contractor, Panchkula. This camp was organized in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh under the supervision of Prof. Neelam Marwaha, Head, Department of Transufsion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh.

According to the spokesperson of the PGI, that association organizes several voluntarily Blood Donation Camps every year to collect 8000-9000 units of blood for its 410 thalassemic children, for whom blood is lifeline for their survival.  They need blood transfusion after every 2-3 weeks for whole of their lives for maintaining blood haemoglobin level around 10 mg.Out of these camps, six camps are organized at PGI, Chandigarh and one camp at GMCH 32 during summer months, when there is acute shortage of blood in these blood banks due to several reasons, so that our thalassemics are not deprived of the regular blood supply for transfusion.

 

NBN organise Sand Pit Activity for Pre Primary Class

Chandigarh 22nd May:- Nav Bal Niketan School, sec 29 chandigarh today organized sand pit activities for children of pre primary section before the summer break. The kids were really excited to play in wet sand and make different things like sand castles, buckets, mugs, glasses and some things of their own interest. The aim of this activity was to let children play outside and be close to mother nature. Some of the kids had never played in the sand before.

Mrs Punam Mahajan, the Principal of the school said that activities like these help in encouraging the kids to be creative and are really necessary for all round development of the kids.
