Shemrock School organizes Stem Education Workshop

Mohali, Jan.10, 2025:-Shemrock Senior secondary School, Sector 69 organized the Stem education workshop at its campus.Stem education is already implemented across more than 112 countries. Stem is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. These areas together are essential for student success. These fields are deeply intertwined in the real world. Stem is an interdisciplinary and applied approach which is coupled with hands-on, problem-based learning.

 

The training program, attended by 50 teachers from various disciplines, was designed to transform traditional pedagogical approaches. Led by Ms. Ritika Khurana an expert facilitator in STEM education, the sessions focused on experiential learning, interdisciplinary teaching strategies, and the use of technology to inspire innovation.

Highlights of the program included hands-on interactive activities, designing prototypes encouraging educators to create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment. Teachers worked in teams to design and present STEM lesson plans, fostering a culture of collaboration and creativity. Stem programme promotes using mostly recyclable material, students construct models such as gliders, submarines, hovercrafts, balloon car, catapult, bio-batteries and parachutes, as a part of their science classes in school. The level of difficulty progresses with each class, as per syllabus, from catapults, aero-modelling, contraption building, to robotic programming.

 

While speaking at the moment Principal Parneet Sohal said that science and technology from a young age and to develop inclination towards these subjects using inquiry methods and to develop problem solving skills. This programme helps to draw real world connections to the workforce and community. Stem projects also provide self-directed, challenge-based learning rather than simply absorbing and regurgitating facts.
