AIHM Hosts Offline Seminar on “Nutritional Intervention of Millets in Our Daily Diet”

Chandigarh Oct. 20, 2021:- In the urge to develop sustainable system of food around the globe United Nation's has set few Sustainable Development Program (SDP's) for food sustainability through promoting Millets and their health benefits by the year of 2023 and is going to celebrate 2023 as "international year of millet". In which Govt. of India has embraced to incorporate their contribution through activities assigned to various ministries and councils from which Ministry of Tourism  (MOT), & IHM's are going to celebrate International Year of Millet (IYoM) 2023 by promoting use of millets and creating awareness about the nutritional benefits of millets. In its first event, under a series of activities to be hosted by Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management, Chandigarh is set to celebrate IYoM.

On 20th October AIHM arranged for a seminar on the promotion of millets and their role in nutrition intervention on human health. The guest talk was supported by Punjab University, Chandigarh, India & University of Cambridge research council (U.K) initiative project "Tigr2ess" under which the expert panel included Prof. Prashant Gautam (UIHTM, Panjab University), Dr. Bharti (Nutritionist/JRF, Punjab University) & Chef Jaswinder (Asst Professor-UIHTM, Panjab University) they all are actively associated under project Tigr2ess. Sitesh Srivastav, Principal AIHM also briefed and emphasized on various benefits of using millet's in daily diet to the future hoteliers (students) and also briefed them about various action plans under UN's SDP's till 2030.

The seminar was purely focused on various nutritional aspects of using millet as the main staple in the regular diet and green revolution through research and empowerment for sustainability. The eminent speakers also focused on changing the environment and related nutritional needs in our diet. They also emphasized on the young generation to adapt the millet or millet based products into their regular food habit. The seminar was not just a guest talk but it was more of an interactive session between speakers and attendees, which everyone enjoyed a lot.

After the guest talk, Food Production faculties Sunil Arya and Sucharu Sharma, prepared a mouth-watering Indian buffet based on millets for the guests and attendees, which also gave hands on practice opportunity to many students to cook and explore various methods of using millet in daily routine. The dishes like Podi Masala Bajra loaf, Kodo millet salad, Barnyard millet lemon rice, Millet crusted fish grilled fish, Beetroot and millet Halwa and crumbly feta cheese, Mysore pak pudding with millet were star's amongst other delectable dishes in the buffet.
