Chandigarh 28th March:- The National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology started from today in PGI, Chandigarh. This weeklong workshop is being attended by around 100 delegates from all over the country. Dr Nusrat Shafiq, Organising Secretary and Dr Samir Malhotra, Organizing Chairperson welcomed the delegates. Prof YK Chawla, Director, PGI, in his inaugural address appraised the role of this workshop in providing training to the participants and disseminating the knowledge regarding clinical pharmacology, clinical trials and drug development throughout the country. Prof Emeritus PL Sharma traced the status of clinical pharmacology from past to the future.
In the opening lecture, Dr Rajan from Dr Reddy's Laboratories gave a lecture on investigational new drug application. Dr Monika Tandon from GlenMark spoke about exploratory clinical trials. They gave the delegates a preview of the various evolutionary clinical trial stages, a new drug undergoes before it enters the market. This was followed by a discussion session on the subject.
In the afternoon session, Dr Viraj Suvarna from Boehringer, India, discussed important clinical trial regulations both at national and international stage Dr Nilanjan Saha from Hamdard shared his experience in conducting a bioavailability/bioequivalence study. For the last lecture of the day, Dr Suyog Mehta from Dr Reddy's Laboratories introduced the delegates to the intricacies in conducting a confirmatory clinical trial.
