Govt. Museum and Art Gallery organize Day Long Art Workshop and Painting Competition

Chandigarh 20th November:- The Govt. Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh in collaboration with Monty Sidhu Foundation  organized a day long unique art workshop and painting competition on the theme' Indian flora and fauna' for the rural schools of Punjab at Sidhu Farm in Village Majra, Distt. Mohali. This was disclosed by Cap. Karnail Singh, PCS, Director, Govt. Museum and Joint Secretary, Technical Education, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh. The Art workshop was conducted by Ravinder Sharma and Pankaj Saroj, both Art teachers from Govt. College of Arts, Chandigarh under the guidance of Officer Incharge. Museum outreach programmes, P.C. Sharma.

The art workshop and painting competition was conducted by the Museum experts and art teachers from Art College, Chandigarh with the objective to inculcate awareness amongst the children about the Art and nature. About 140 rural students from different adjoining Govt. and Private schools participated in the Art event. The participating children were grouped in three different categories of age groups i.e. junior category 5-8, middle category, 9-11 and senior category, 13-16.Three prize winning entries from above categories were adjudged for conferment of Best Child Artists awards in different categories. The Puppet Theatre Artist Subhashish Neogi from West Bengal also organized puppet making workshop and enacted a puppet play for the excitement of rural children which was really a brain storming and thrilling activity to the students.

Keeping in view the response of the rural children, Cap. Singh, Museum Director further said that we are intending to plan regular and periodical Art competitions and workshops on various themes concerning the society to bring about more awareness about our ancient heritage, culture, folk Art and traditions.

P.C. Sharma, Officer-Incharge outreach programmes emphasized the need of such visual education and role of museums in imparting cultural and historical education to the students and said that the thematic mobile exhibitions should be taken to rural places to educate the common masses.
