Chandigarh 20th September:- A training session on IPV (inactivated Polio Vaccine) was organized at Public Health Dispensary, sec-25 by doctors from Deptt. Of Community Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh. India has eliminated polio in January, 2014 as no case of polio was reported in past consecutive 3 years. To strengthen it further, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is going to introduce IPV, which is given by injection route. In the Universal immunization Programme to vaccinate all children under 5 years by November, 2015. To introduce this vaccine to the health workers like ANMs, Anganwadi Workers(AWWs), ASHAs, the training session was held in which doctors told the workers about the need, how to administer the vaccine, at what age, possible side effects, its proper storage and transportation at the site of vaccination etc. The vaccine would be administered once at the age of 14 weeks along with Pentavalent and Oral Polio Vaccine and could be administered to children upto one year of age. Dr Urvi Sharma, Senior Resident,Dr Md abu Bashar, Junior Resident and Mrs Meena Verma, ANM from department of Community Medicine, PGI were present during the session in which 22ANMs and Anganwadi Workers(AWWs) were trained.
