Mohali 01st February:-- The Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Mohali headed by Jagroop Singh Mahal which was held today allowed an application moved by Ajay Kumar and others directing Lt.Col. P.J.S. Mehta, Chairman of National Consumer Awareness Group of Society and its governing body to sell the land of the Society and distribute the sale proceeds among its members proportionately to the amount received by them.

Ajay Kumar and others had moved an application before the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Mohali alleging that Lt. Col. P.J.S. Mehta had floated the above said Society of which Ram Jethmalani, Ex Cabinet Minister was said to be the Patron-in-Chief. He received various amounts ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 Lacs from each of 585 members promising to purchase land and construct flats thereon for allotting to them. The 16 acres of land was purchased in Sector 91 (village Chapparcheri) but no flats have been constructed due to technical reasons. The members had since been demanding the refund of the amount by the sale of the land but no action was taken thereon. A general body meeting was convened thrice by the members in which it was decided that the land should be sold and the amount be distributed among its members. It was alleged that whenever a purchaser came to purchase the land Lt. Col. P.J.S. Mehta raised sale price arbitrarily above the one earlier demanded and therefore the land had not been sold so far. Lt. Col. P.J.S. Mehta when summoned admitted that the land has been purchased by the Society and that the flats cannot be constructed thereon for its members. He also admitted that the amount is to be refunded to the member’s alongwith interest whenever the land is sold. He however did not give any specific date till when the land would be sold. The Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Mohali after giving an opportunity to both the parties to lead evidence passed the order directing the respondents to hold elections to the Society which had not been held since 2005 though the term of the governing body was only three years and directed the respondents to sell the land and distribute the amount so received amongst its members.
