Chandigarh 23rd November:--- To upgrade and enhance the quality of education across schools and technical & higher education institutes across the region, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) NR and CII's Institute of Quality, Bangalore have come together to jointly hold a Regional Summit on Quality in Educationon November 25, 2013 at CII, NR, Headquarters here in Chandigarh. The Summit which is themed as 'Quality Education: Scalable with Inclusiveness', will bring together renowned academicians, researchers, experts, corporates, financers, educational consultants and students to deliberate and debate on how education can be made more affordable, accessible, relevant to industry needs and job-oriented.
"CII believes that the socio-economic balance can improve only through sustainable education. There is a need to develop capable, 'thinking youth' – the future force of the nation, and in this regard, the role of educators is immensely critical. The summit will provide an opportunity for dialogue amongst educational leaders for sharing their vision, strategy, best practices, innovations, successes, issues, concerns and solutions which will enrich the knowledge and perspective of other stakeholders from the region", shared Vijay K Thadani, Chairman, CII NR Special Task Force on Skills & Education, & CEO, NIIT Ltd. "India's higher education sector is one of the largest in the world, catering to 25 million students. Six decades ago, the country had less than 700 diploma and degree institutions. Now it has 45,000, with almost half of those emerging in the past ten years alone. The sector has been expanding at a breakneck pace, but there are growing concerns the quality of higher education isn't keeping up. Through this summit, CII will strive to share concepts, approaches and best practices that can be adopted by the institutions for building a strong education system," he added.
Besides them, eminent personalities of the education sector like- Dr Sitansu Sekhar Jena, Chairman, National Institute of Open Schooling, Navein Juneja, Director, Lovely Professional University and M P Poonia, Director, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh, will also share their insights on how to upgrade the education system in the region.
Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII, Northern Region. Said that there is a need to develop quality academic institutions to prepare our next generation. The central importance of higher education in a country's development is well recognized. If we are to grow as a nation, the education system has to figure prominently in the template of progress. Right to Education has become a reality. We have to now stress on Right Education. Therefore, the purpose of organizing Regional Summit on Quality in Education is to provide a common platform for policy makers and eminent personalities of the sector to come together and address the major issues to upscale the level of quality education.
