UTS: INSEARCH Science Program Manager Conducts Workshop with School Students

Chandigarh 03rd December:- Increasing number of students from city and the region are opting for science programs in Australia, but to encourage more students to opt for the stream, we need to ensure students get a hands-on experience to generate their interest in the subject. While conducting a workshop with students of tricity, at Hotel Taj here, Dr. Maree Skillen, Program Manager- Science, UTS: INSEARCH stressed on the need to encourage more girls from the region to pursue exciting career opportunities in science.

Dr. Maree Skillen is visiting Punjab to encourage students to take up science and also to apprise them of the recently introduced Diploma of Science program which now incorporates streams in both Physical Science and Life Science to meet the needs students are seeking to develop careers in a range of science fields.

In a workshop with over 100 students from different schools from Chandigarh and Punjab, Dr. Skillen conducted an engaging session in which students were encouraged to participate in exciting science experiments. The students were from Class XI and XII.

Dr. Maree Skillen said that every year UTS: INSEARCH gets a lot of students from the region including Chandigarh, adding that IT and Engineering are the most sought after streams as of now. Over 350 students from across the country are currently enrolled with UTS: INSEARCH. She added, sessions with school students in Classes 9 and 10 from the city and region will be conducted in the next phase to catch them young when it comes to informing them about several exciting options in science.
