Chandigarh 28th October: --- School of Public Health, PGI Chandigarh in collaboration with  Indian Council of Medical Research, (ICMR), New Delhi, India organized  'National Workshop on Fuzzy Relational Calculus and Evidence Theory in Environment & Medical Sciences'. It aimed to provide the participants in depth understanding of fuzzy relational calculus and key was to demonstrate the utility of these mathematical paradigms in environment and medical diagnosis. The workshop specifically addressed the core competencies like how to arrive at a definite conclusion based upon imprecise/ fuzzy, ambiguous, and /or the domain expert's knowledgebase, more concretely, decision making in a Fuzzy Environment.

Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Head, School of Public Health, PGIMER welcomed all the participants and motioned there is need to extend collaboration for multi-disciplinary approach to beter address the public health issues. The workshop was inaugurated by Professor SK Tomar, Chairman, department of Mathmatics, Panjab University, Chandigarh and his inaugural address Prof. Tomar highlighted that such workshop can demonstrate the utility of these mathematical paradigms in environment and medical diagnosis to better solve the problems around us.

Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Organizing Secretary and Assistant Professor of Environment Health, mentioned that this workshop is probably for the first being organized in a medical institute in India and will foster the skills to develop the applications of fuzzy logic in the field of medical sciences. He mentioned that achieving high levels of precision costs significantly in time or money or both. However, for most of the problems, we can we can do a better job in accepting some level of imprecision i.e. Fuzziness.
