Chandigarh 24th August:- With the increasing number of customers shifting from feature phones to smartphones, there has been an immediate requirement to shift from a mini-SIM to a micro- or nano-SIM.  Here we bring a quick understanding of SIMs that helps build an increased level of awareness on Micro/Mini and Nano SIMs amongst consumers. Until the recent launch of iPhone 5 and ipad models, they were only two kinds of SIMs available in the market, a Mini or Micro SIM. Today there are three different sizes of SIMs depending upon the device used – mini-SIM, micro-SIM or nano-SIM.

The Mini SIM is the commonly used SIM in most phones and is around two and a half centimetres long and one and a half centimetres wide. The micro- SIM is a smaller type of SIM that was first used in the iPhone 4 and is today used across most smartphone devices. It's about half the length of the Mini SIM. A nano- SIM is around 40% smaller than a micro- SIM and is required is one is using a iPhone 5, 5s or 5c and is available for both 3G and 4G networks.

Airtel has always taken the lead in associating with initiatives that resonate well with the preferences of today's India. Today, in order to ensure enhanced customer convenience, Airtel has introduced it's latest offering in the market, the Smart SIM which enables it's users to use their SIM card across multiple devices. Rightly identified as Smart SIM, the Airtel Smart SIM card is a nano SIM offered along with adapters for using the SIM card as a micro or mini SIM (the standard sized SIM card). The Airtel Smart SIM is an ideal choice that allows customer to use the same SIM card across different devices for multiple purposes. For Example – the SMART SIM can be used on data card or on a feature phone when the smartphone is not in use. Swapping SIM cards from a micro to a nano SIM takes approximately 4 hrs for activation. Alternatively users also visit corner mobile stores to cut or rather resize their SIM cards. In most cases, SIM card that are cut manually result in bad signal strength and increased customer inconvenience. In such a scenario, the Smart SIM is a hero that not only save time and money but is also extremely convenient, effortless and ensures a richer customer experience. The smart SIM is priced at Rs 49/- and can be purchased from any of the Airtel stores.
