PGI Conduct Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course

Chandigarh 06th March:-  The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive care, PGI Chandigarh conducted the American Heart Association accredited Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support from 5th to 7th March at Advanced Cardiac Centre, PGI. In this course the staff nurses and doctors from various specialities including anaesthesia, obstetrics and gynaecology, dental surgery, general surgery and urology from PGI and other hospitals from the tricity as well as other cities of north India were trained in the life support skills. The course was conducted by faculty from Maulana Azad Medical college New Delhi, DMC Ludhiana, GMCH, sector 32 and PGIMER, Chandigarh. Prof Y K Chawla, Director, PGI, Prof VK Grover, Head, Department of Anaesthesia at PGI and Prof GD Puri, Chairman Advanced Cardiac Centre, PGI interacted with the participants and encouraged them.

The entire first day of the course was dedicated to Basic Life Support training which consists of resuscitation without the use of any equipment in patients with cardiac arrest. On the second and third day the participants were trained in advanced skills which included advanced management of airway, breathing and circulation with the use of airway devices, defibrillation and drugs. The course comprised of interactive discussions and extensive hands-on training of each participant on mannequins.
