Three Days Regional Workshop-cum-Annual Action Plan Meeting Starts

Chandigarh 02nd December:-  The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, UT-Chandigarh organised three days regional workshop-cum-annual action plan meeting w.e.f. 2nd to 4th Dec 2015 at Hotel Ginger, Ind. Area, Phase 1, Chandigarh. The state programme officers of the states i.e. Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarkhand, Goa, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh participated in the meeting along with their regional directors. The representatives from Directorate of NVBDCP GOI under the guidance of Dr. G.S. Sonal, Addl Director took part in the workshop.

The Secretary Health, U.T. Chandigarh, Anurag Agarwal inaugurated three days regional workshop-cum-action plan on 2nd Dec-2015. The workshop cum-annual action plan meeting was organised by NVBDCP (Malaria Wing Health Department) Chandigarh under the guidance of Directorate of NVBDCP GOI. The Secretary Health, Chandigarh stressed the need for involvement of private sectors for elimination of malaria initially in few states of India.  He assured full cooperation from Chandigarh Administration to control malaria and dengue in Chandigarh & appreciated the efforts of Malaria Wing (Health Deptt ), Chandigarh for limiting number of dengue cases this year which could have been much higher by doing house to house survey. He emphasised the need of better surveillance for containment of outbreaks.

Dr. G.S. Sonal, Addl. Director GOI New Delhi emphasised the need for elimination of malaria from India by 2030 in a phased manner. The above mentioned states are having Annual Parasite Index (API) < 1. So these states are to be considered in initial phase for elimination of malaria. He also appreciated the role of Indian Medical Association for their involvement in different national health programmes.

Dr. Vandana Gupta, Medical Superintendent-cum-Joint Director, GMSH-16, Chandigarh welcomed all the delegates and assured commitment for eradication of malaria in Chandigarh.

Dr. Sandeep Dhawan, President IMA, Chandigarh assured full cooperation to the health deptt for working at the grass root level by organising various field activities for prevention and control of malaria and dengue. He also assured involvement of private labs in diagnostic services.

Dr. Anil Garg, Asstt. Director Malaria, UT-Chandigarh delivered vote of thanks. He thanked Secretary Health, UT-Chandigarh for being chairperson of newly constituted epidemic outbreak supervisory committee which also includes members from PGIMER-12 & GMCH-32, Chandigarh. The committee will supervise hospital preparedness of different hospitals in Chandigarh both in govt and private sectors during outbreaks.

 A cartoon book comprises IEC activities regarding dengue (in English and Hindi) prepared by Dr. Gaurav Agarwal, Anti Malaria Officer, UT-Chd was also released by the chief guest.

The technical session for malaria elimination strategy and state action plan will continue for next three days.
