21776 Students Gets Scholarship Worth Rs. 15 Crore 26 Lacs 80 Thousand 613, in District under Post Matric & Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme: Sidhu

Chandigarh 25^th September:-  The Punjab Government is fully committed for the welfare of scheduled castes and backward classes by alleviating their education level through ensuring primary education for them. In this regard, 21776 students belonging to SC & backward classes in the district have been benefitted with scholarship worth Rs. 15 crore 26 lakh 80 thousand 613 under Post Matric and Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme.

Deputy Commissioner, Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, 1715 students of minority group were benefitted with Rs. 71 lakh 18 thousand 865 and under Merit –cum- Means Scholarship Scheme 230 students got benefitted with scholarship worth Rs. 65 lacs 6 thousand 737 and under Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme 8208 students got benefitted with Scholarship worth Rs. 1 crore 23 lacs 2 thousand 712. Meanwhile Scholarship worth Rs. 11 crore 68 lacs 4 thousand 793 stands provided to 6454 SC students under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme and under Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme 4217 students got Scholarship worth Rs. 94 lacs 88 thousand 250.

Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu further said that besides above, under Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme 938 students belonging to Other Backward Classes were also got scholarship worth Rs. 4 lacs 33 thousand 356. Besides this, 14 students engaged in unclean occupations have also been benefitted with scholarship worth Rs. 25 thousand 9 Hundred under Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that Under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, eligible SC students will also get benefit under Medical, Engineering, Diploma/ Degree Courses, Post Graduation, Veterinary etc. Apart from this, scholarship to students of 9th and 10th standard is also being provided for their education, through online mode. He further elaborated that the Ambedkar career and courses institute, being run by Social welfare department Punjab at 3b2 offers free coaching to SC students for I.A.S., P.C.S & P.O. exams, wherein facility for free lodging / boarding is also being provided to them. Besides this, Stenography course is also being offered by the institute.
