CFHA to Take on Cheema Academy in Opening Match

Chandigarh 21st August:- The Chandigarh Football and Hockey Academy will take on Cheema Hockey Academy, Batala, in the opening match of the 14th ONGC SN Vohra memorial sub-junior (Under-14) hockey tournament to be played at Sector 18 hockey stadium on August 22. This was disclosed by the Anil Vohra, organising secretary of the Rock Rovers Club.

Anil Vohra further informed that in the second match, Baba Uttam Singh Hockey (BUSH) Academy, Khadoor Sahib, will face Som Gurukul, Kurukshetra. A total of 12 teams, including last year's winners Baba Uttam Singh Hockey (BUSH) Academy, Khadoor Sahib, and runners-up Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar, will be seen in action in the tournament to be held from August 22 to 29.

The tournament, with a view to providing competition to the upcoming youngsters at grass root level, will be organised by Rock Rovers Hockey Club, an affiliated unit of Hockey Chandigarh and shall be played on league-cum-knockout basis.

Other than BUSh Academy and Surjit Academy, the other teams taking part in the tournament are VS Agriculture Senior Secondary School, Delhi; Namdhari Hockey team, Bhaini Sahib; SGPC Hockey team, Faridkot; Som Gurukul, Kurukshetra, Haryana; MRS Hockey Academy, Amritsar; SAI Hockey Patna, Bihar; MDN School, Rohtak, Haryana; Cheema Hockey Academy, Batala; MSSK Gazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh Football and Hockey Academy, Chandigarh. All the teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

All the 12 teams have been divided into four pools and the top team of each pool will qualify for the semi-finals. All the players will undergo medical check-up for the verification of their age. The winner will be a cash prize of `45,000 whereas the runners-up team will be get cash award of `35,000. Besides individual prizes, a memento and cash award of `1,000 will be given to best goalkeeper, full-back, half-back, forward and most well behaved tam (Dr BL Gupta memorial fair play trophy).
