Chandigarh 20th May:- Winner of 19 awards and distinctions, documentary 'THE WORLD BEFORE HER' that focuses on womens' rights was screened at Dikshant International School, Zirakpur today. Also present was its Director & Emmy nominated Filmmaker Nisha Pahuja. The documentary film Which had a theatrical release across ten cities of India in June last year  ran for 4 weeks & became one of the most successful documentary to ever release in India.The documentary is backed by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

'THE WORLD BEFORE HER' tells the story of two India's by focusing on two heroines--the first, Ruhi Singh a Miss India aspirant from Jaipur, the second,Prachi Trivedi a strong-willed member of the Durga Vahini from Aurangabad. Going back and forth between these two womens' lives and the very distinct worlds they inhabit, the film paints a nuanced and very intimate portrait of women and a Nation at a cross roads.

As part of its ongoing India Campaign, filmmaker Nisha Pahuja, is taking the film to schools, colleges, universities and rural communities in Punjab, UP, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. The screening at Dikshant International School, Zirakpur, kick-started the screening tour in the Chandigarh & Punjab region.

Nisha Pahuja said that the goal of the campaign is to spread awareness and create meaningful dialogue And exchange on issues of violence against women, female foeticide and gender equality. We aim also to tell youth the importance of a secular India as the country moves forward. Nisha Pahuja added that the film is so non-judgmental we've found that it has this wonderful ability to spark dialogue and create a shift in people's thinking--and shifting  consciousness especially through empathy is one of the most fundamental steps in creating social change.

Mitul Dikshit, Chairman, Dikshant International School, Zirakpur said that 150 students of grades Xth-& XIIth saw the film along-with 60 teachers of our school. It was a very enriching experience as after the film was screened students had a very fruitful interaction with Director of the documentary -- Nisha Pahuja. Students & teachers got an opportunity to view a film termed as one of the most important films of 2014 by Many Indian critics. It has been the highest grossing documentary to release in India. 

Apart from The World Before Her, Nisha's credits include Diamond Road (2007 Gemini award Best Documentary Series) & Bollywood Bound ( Gemini nominee 2001) Recently, Pahuja was invited to be a Resident Fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation    Bellagio Centre where she began developing her long  term project--a series on global fundamentalisms.
