Maruti Suzuki clinch trophy at CII Quality Circle Competition

Chandigarh 10th October:- The 'Winner' Quality Circle (QC) from Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Manesar won the 'Winners Trophy' in the 27th CII Quality Circle (QC) Preliminary Competitionorganised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at its Northern Region Headquarters in Sector 31 A, here today. The 'First Runner-up Trophy' was won by Chunauti Quality Circle (QC) from Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd, Mohali while Daksha Quality Circle (QC) from TATA Motors Ltd, Lucknow bagged the 'Second Runners-up Trophy'. In addition, Pragati QC from Vardhman Spinning Mills, Baddi and SangharshQuality Circle from JCB India Ltd, Ballabgarh were given the consolation prizes.

In all, Fifteen Quality Circles involving workmen of the companies from all across the north India made presentations on specific projects handled by them at their workplace, which resulted in improving quality, efficiency and yield, and also reduced turnaround time. The assessment of the presentation was made on a weighted scale covering different aspects of the Quality Circle activity. The evaluation was based on factors like problem selection, analysis, solution, presentation, etc.

 

Sandeep Hans, Special Secretary, Chandigarh Administration while awarding the prizes, shared that it is imperative to inculcate and propagate quality culture in Indian Industry if it has to compete globally. In both technical and higher education, there is increased thrust to enhance the quality so that industry gets the desired kind of workforce. Quality circles are typically more informal form of innovation. Quality Circles when meet regularly on company time and are trained by competent persons, bring out innovations that lead not only to the productivity of the company but also leads to the growth of the nation. Sandeep Hans participation in quality circles trains the individuals in basic skills of problem identification, information gathering and analysis, basic statistics, and solution generation. This leads to the development of individuals as well.

Amarbir Singh, Vice Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council & Proprietor, Indian Polymer Industries that our Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi has recently given a call for 'Zero Defect' and 'Zero Effect'. This puts higher responsibility on our manufacturing sector to adhere to quality systems and reach 100% perfection in quality. The adoption of quality systems is a way of gearing up to meet these challenges. We in CII want to create a new India, a modern Indian industry and a fulfilled society, an India, where quality is the watchword-in political leadership, in the bureaucracy, in industry, amongst individuals. Our Prime Minister's call towards 'Make in India' is a step in the right direction.

Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII NR said that CII, embarked on the quality journey way back in 1998, as an act of faith. It was our way of saying that, let us, through our own initiatives, make the Indian industry competitive, efficient and strive for world class excellence. We want to create a new India, a modern Indian industry and a fulfilled society, an India, where quality is the watchword-in political leadership, in the bureaucracy, in industry, amongst individuals.
