Chandigarh 02nd September:- A Six Days Workshop on "HIV AIDS Care, Prevention & Treatment" was organized by Dr. Sandhya Ghai, Principal, along with a team of coordinators Dr. Sunita Sharma, Dr. Sukhwinder Kaur and Dr. Sushma Saini, Lecturers, National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER, Chandigarh under Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).
The students of B.Sc. Nursing (4 years) & B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) were imparted this Six Days Training as these students would ultimately serve as either nurse/ trainers/educators somewhere in future. The workshop was successfully completed on 1st September, 2014. A total of numbers of 136 students were trained in this workshop.The goal of this training was to provide basic information on HIV AIDS & Antiretroviral therapy (ART) enabling them to adequately support, care & treat their patients who are HIV Positive. This course has been designed for hospital & ART Centre Nurses. The students have been trained about Nurses Role in HIV/AIDS, Stigma & Discrimination, Epidemiology and disease progression, Counselling & Testing for HIV, Prevention of parent to child transmission (PPTCT), Infection control & Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), Introduction to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), Paediatric HIV, Symptomatic management of Opportunistic infections (OIs), Sexually transmitted infections, Positive living, Palliative care for PLHAs and Complementary therapies in HIV. Challenges faced by nurses in taking care of PLHIVs in their institutes & the measures to overcome those challenges were also discussed.
