CII Tourism Fest To Showcase Tourism Potential of Chd, Punjab & Haryana

Chandigarh 04th November:--- Chandigarh, Punjab & Haryana will aggressively showcase their enormous tourism potential to attract more and more national as well as international tourists in the upcoming CII Tourism Fest from 5-7 December 2013 at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The fest which is being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the biggest and most anticipated International Festival of the region aimed to accelerate growth in the International tourism sector and to create & establish roadmap for inclusive and seamless tourism across the region, nation and globe. Chandigarh is the Host City and Punjab as the Principal Partner State while Haryana is the focus state. The event will be first of its kind with both national as well as international participation. The fest aims to unleash the latent potential of the tourism sector and is expected to turn the economy around and boost tourism at regional, state and global level. It would also have concurrent activities like International Dance Festival and International Chef Meet. Other 13 states like Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, J & K, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi are also participating in this unique fest.  The fest will also have international flavour with participation of 8 countries viz China, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Philippines, Dubai, Thailand Indonesia and Turkey. 20 buyers from overseas and 90 from across the country will also participate that will allow inflow of special packages/ itineraries by State Tourism Authorities & Foreign Tourism Boards, B2B meets and tie ups with Uttarakhand tourism department officials. This will ultimately increase inflow of International and Domestic Tourists, giving push to the Hospitality & Transport industry in Uttarakhand. The fest would dwell on aspects like participative role of Central & State Governments and agencies, Seamless tourism, Demand & Supply Scenario in India, Tourism Development: Destination Marketing, Urban and Regional Tourism Development, Sustainable Tourism, Economic Sustainability and impact of tourism on economy, Marketing and branding strategies, Human resources management strategies for tourism & hospitality industry, Case studies of good practices in tourism governance, policy making and management.

North can attract tourists for various forms of tourism like Eco tourism, Religious tourism, cultural tourism, Hill Tourism, Architectural, Farm, Heritage, Weekend and Lifestyle tourism. Presently, out of 2.5 lac tourists visiting Shimla every year, only 22,000 tourists stay put in Chandigarh. This number can grow by at least 5 times, if an Integrated Tourism Circuit is created with participation and synergy between all key stakeholders like the travel and tourism operators, agencies, governments and the industry from all northern states", highlighted Ms Tanvi Garg, Director – Tourism, Chandigarh Administration while addressing the CII Tourism Fest Roadshow, organised to bring the hospitality industry from the region on board.  "We would also aggressively showcase our strengths through CII tourism Fest and promote Punjab as a tourist destination to domestic and overseas delegations of tour and travel operators, hospitality agencies and other stakeholders. The Fest will help us regain the tourist inflow back in the state", shared Mr V B Kumar, State Executive Director, Punjab, Heritage Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB), Government of Punjab. "Chandigarh and Punjab are partnering in this Fest as Host City and Principal Partner State respectively, along with 5 other states, primarily with the aim to network strongly with the world and increase the flow of International and domestic tourists here. The need of the hour is to showcase the northern region as a Global Tourist Destination by creating synergies between various stakeholders, creating enabling policies, desired infrastructure and thus attracting investments in the tourism and hospitality sector, which is also the objective of CII Tourism Fest", she further emphasised. "We would also aggressively showcase our strengths through CII tourism Fest and promote Haryana as a tourist destination to domestic and overseas delegations of tour and travel operators, hospitality agencies and other stakeholders. The Fest will help us regain the tourist inflow back in the state", shared Ms Sumita Mishra, Secretary Tourism & MD Haryana Tourism Corporation Ltd. "Envisioned to contribute to the overall GDP growth, CII Tourism Fest would aim to showcase India as a Global Tourist Destination by creating synergies between various stakeholders, creating enabling policies and desired infrastructure and attracting investments in the tourism and hospitality sector", shared Mr Arjun Sharma, Chairman, CII Tourism Fest 2013 & Managing Director, Le Passage to India. "It would be a first of its kind initiative, primarily aimed at creating awareness about the scope of Rural Tourism, Destination Management, Image building and Cinematic Tourism in the region because of its beautiful and scenic landscapes. The Fest would strongly promote rural tourism under Public Private People Partnership (PPPP) mode", he added. "There is an immense potential of tourism in India, considering our great heritage, beautiful locations and cheaper medical facilities. We just need to brand it well". The Fest would comprise a lot of Buyer Seller Meets; deliberations on required Policy initiatives; Leisure & Excursion Trips etc," informed Mr Sharma. "Various stakeholders that would participate in addition to governments include Hoteliers, Hospitals, Tour Operators, Travel Agents, Golf Courses & Resorts, Central & State Government Tourism Agencies, Tourism Board of various Countries, Airlines, Airports, Air  Charters Companies, City Transport Providers, Railways and IRCTC, Industry experts in hospitality and tourism, Administrators of academic programs in hospitality and tourism, Publishers of journals and academic textbooks, Tourism Web Portal Companies, Educational Institutes, Holiday Clubs, Spa & Wellness Centers etc" shared Mr D L Sharma, Chairman, CII Punjab State Council
