Chandigarh 15th October:--- A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court on Monday framed corruption charges against former Chandigarh police SP (city) Desh Raj Singh, who was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in October last year. CBI special judge Vimal Kumar framed charges against the IPS officer under sections 7 (public servant taking gratification) and 13 (criminal, misconduct by a public servant) of the Anti Corruption Act, 1988.
A 2008-batch IPS officer, Desh Raj was caught at his official residence allegedly taking the bribe from his subordinate officer, inspector Anokh Singh, in lieu of giving a favourable report in five departmental inquiries against him for "showing indiscipline to senior officers". Desh Raj had joined Chandigarh police as assistant superintendent in October 2010 and was promoted to the rank of superintendent of police (city) in July 2012.The next date of hearing was on November 27.
